LANSING MICHGAN - The color purple took over The Capitol on Sunday for the 2013 Walk to End Alzheimer's. Even though it was not the warm and sunny day weather had predicted, people still bundled up to show their support.

"So this year our goal was $127,000 to raise and we have surpassed our goal. We are ecstatic. We've had over 1,000 people here today and we've had 95 teams so I couldn't be more pleased with today," said Jill Clouser, Chair for the walk.

Preparation for the walk is a year-round task by a walk committee. The event featured a band, a blow up slide for the kids, popcorn, ice cream and a raffle.

"This is the walk's 16th year, our 2nd year at The Capitol which is a wonderful setting. I thank everybody for coming out, all our sponsors, everybody who donated items for our raffles will also go into our donation goal," said Suzanne Ferris, volunteer coordinator with the Walk to End Alzheimer's.

There was also a tent set up for a promise garden. Participants and volunteers could receive a colored flower that signified how Alzheimer's has influenced their lives. Whether it be having the disease themselves, losing someone to the disease or simply supporting the cause.

Here at the annual Walk to End Alzheimer's, volunteers are raising awareness and advocacy for the disease. they are hoping to increase government funding and hopefully one day find a cure for a disease that effects millions of americans.

The 5K was led by a police escort and supporters followed close behind. There were purple clothes, purple hair and even purple dogs, showing that you can never do too much for a good cause.
