MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Meridian Township Parks & Recreation Department is partnering with the Friends of Historic Meridian and the Nokomis Native American Cultural Center to present the Meridian Heritage Festival.

Residents will celebrate the community’s history by enjoying a day of Pioneer and Native American food, entertainment, demonstrations, games, exhibits, and activities providing fun for visitors of all ages.

Join the fun on Saturday, September 21st at 10:00a.m. til 3:00 p.m. at the Meridian Historical Village (5151 Marsh Rd, Okemos, MI).

“History experts from Friends of Historic Meridian and Nokomis Learning Center have created a great line-up of activities and events that are entertaining, participatory, and educational,” said LuAnn Maisner, Meridian Township’s Director of Parks and Recreation.

The Meridian Township Arts and Crafts Marketplace will be open featuring products from a variety of local vendors. Civil War re-enactments from Sisters of the Union, cart and pony rides, rug making, live animals, and children’s games will be among the activities offered at the festival. There will also be an exhibit of Log Cabin quilts in the Barnes House Inn and Tavern in the Meridian Historical Village. Performers include the Ardan School of Irish dancers, the Lost Hitchhikers String Band, accordion player Mickey Cyrus, and Lee Mulder, an Irish and Scottish folk singer.

Admission to the event is free and vendors will be on hand in the food court with a selection of delicious foods for sale. Bicycle parking is available for residents who choose to pedal to the event.
