OKEMOS - The pages are turning on the Okemos Library Renovation project. Minor construction started Monday September 9th and will proceed through the 30th. The library will be closed to the public for major construction of the bathrooms and tearing down walls of the library.
The final product will have more open space for visitors, a quite corner for reading and also more electrical outlets for lap top use. Also furniture will be replaced and the walls will receive a paint job.
In order to pay for this project 100,000 dollars was raised in public donations which was matched 2 to 1 from Meridian Township. The estimated cost of the project will be $300,000.
"I like to thank the community for its support during this project. We were able to raise a considerable amount of money in a short period of time. It will be an inconvenience to them for the next couple of weeks while we are closed. But when we re-open, its going to be a wonderful new facility and i think they are really going to appreciate the work that was done here," explained Betsy Hull, Head Librarian of the Okemos library.
While the library is closed, patrons can still bring back their materials but will have to go to a different library location to pick up materials. Construction is anticipated to be complete by mid-December.
