MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The 19 mile Grand River/Michigan Avenue corridor stretching from the Capital through East Lansing, Meridian Township and all the way to Webberville has 1.7 million transit trips annually. In that 19 mile stretch there are many different land areas, from the bustling city of Lansing to the suburbs of Meridian and Webberville.

The Michigan Avenue/Grand River Avenue Charette Project is a way where local citizens can come together to voice their concerns and opinions on how to improve these areas. The first Charette was held May 1st-7th of last year. Many came out to share their opinions on what they would like to see on the 19 mile stretch.

Some of the ideas brought up at the Charette were improving urban centers while preserving local agriculture. Others included making the area more bikeable and walkable especially around the Frandor Mall and for better transit systems. The next Charette sponsored by the national Charrette Institute will be held in October in Lansing.
