MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The Meridian Senior Center hosted a unique event this past Friday that allowed guests to learn more about Native American Culture.
The program, entitled "Pow Wow Regalia and the People of Three Fires", provided an introduction to the history and cultures of the Ojibwa, Odawa, and Potawatomi Tribes of Michigan.
Residents who attended the program were able to examine some Native American artifacts, including some rather sacred pieces.
Don Moore, the Education Operations Manager of the Nokomis Learning Center, says the program was designed to provide a more in-depth view of Native American Culture.
"We got together, and started talking about doing a set of presentations talking about the symbolic nature of pow-wow regalia,' Moore said. "Less about the dances and things like that. More about, 'what do you bring to a pow-wow?'"
Moore says the Nokomis Learning Center has several more programs and projects lined up, including the biggest round dance in Meridian Township History.
