MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - This summer, Cornell Road and other local roads have been a hot button topic in the Township. A new deficit elimination plan was an action item at the July 23rd Township Board meeting.
The deficit elimination plan was concerning the $400,000 that kick started a road millage a few years ago, because some of the local roads were in such bad shape they needed immediate fixing. There were two different options on how to eliminate that deficit.
The action item option was to pay back some of the deficit, $80,000 at a time over the course of the next 5 years. If the funds are available the Township will pay them back. If the $80,000 is not available for a current year, then they would be forgiven or essentially written off on the Meridian Township General Fund which currently has a surplus.
The $80,000 a year resolution was passed with a 6-0 vote.
