MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Township Officials are requesting proposals for a piece of public art to be displayed in Downtown Okemos.
The piece of art will be placed at the roundabout/traffic circle located at the intersection of Hamilton Road and Marsh Road.
The sculpture will be funded through a place-making public art grant received from the Lansing economic area partnership (LEAP).
The LEAP grant limits this project to individuals living or working in Clinton, Eaton, or Ingham counties.
A committee will be put together to determine what piece of art will be chosen.
An artist is not limited to submitting just one proposal.
Meridian Township Associate Planner, Peter Menser explains what they will be looking at when choosing a piece of art, "Something to embody Downtown Okemos or that area specifically. Something that is really going to fit in that area. So I'm hoping any potential artists or sculptor or fabricator will come down and spend some time in the area and see whats there and really design based on the surroundings."
The deadline to submit a proposal is September 9, 2013 at 5pm.
