INGHAM COUNTY - The Ingham County Sheriff's Office is using a new app to identify criminals.

The app is called Mobile Patrol. It provides profiles of wanted fugitives in Ingham County as well as a list of criminals occupying Ingham County jail. Some local residents said the app could make their neighborhood safer for children.

"Well personally to have something like that at your fingertips would be really nice. Especially being a mother of small children and living in an area where I know other mothers with small children...it just seems like it would be a beneficial thing to have," said Rachel Young, a mother from Okemos.

The app is free to use by law enforcement agencies. It is part of an effort by the Sheriff's Office to modernize law enforcement.
