MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Some bridge card holders are taking advantage of Double Up Food Bucks at the Meridian Farmers' Market.
Instead of spending money at the grocery store, bridge card holders can exchange their money for tokens. The tokens are worth double the cash value that the money would be worth at a store. However, they can only be used on fresh fruits and vegetables.
"It's essentially free money for people who have trouble being able to afford good sources of fruits and vegetables," said Meridian Farmers' Market vendor Rebecca Titus.
Double Up Food Bucks is a grant program from the Fair Food Network. Double Up Food Bucks will available until the end of October or when all of the grant funding is used.
