Conceptual Design Approved for
Cornell Road Project

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The Meridian Township Board has paved the way for improvements to begin on Cornell Road.

At the last Board meeting, Director of Public Works and Engineering for Meridian Township, Raw Severy, presented design plans and cost estimates for the Cornell Road improvement project. Road widening, hill cutting and adding guardrails have been proposed to make the road safer, but because they carry a hefty price tag, some board members want to scale back to keep the project with its budget.

“We all like the basic plan that came forward from the task force, we seem to be willing to live with the $900,000 number," said Trustee Ronald Styka. "I think we should pass this resolution, giving direction to the engineering staff and the township manager to make the modifications needed to come within that number that are consistent with the philosophy, the intent of that task force.”

And the board did just that.

The conceptual design of the Cornell project was approved by a 5- to-2 vote under the conditions that the project will follow the recommendations of the Cornell Road task force as closely as possible, and not exceed $900,000.
