MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Two Meridian Township bridges are on their way to being constructed. Bids have been placed by contractors to start on the Jo Pass bridge. This bridge will be a 35 foot bridge to connect a residential neighborhood to a pathway, which will be placed over small drain. The other bridge that is still in the design stage is the Okemos Road Pedestrian Bridge. This bridge is being re-done because the side walk is too narrow which makes it unsafe for pedestrians and bikers. These bridges will be constructed off site and trucked in pieces to their location.
Ray Severy, Director of Public Works and Engineering said, "With these kind of bridges that are built off site, what we do is we give them the conceptual design. We tell them how long it is going to be, what the strength has to be and they submit the design back to us".
The Township is in the process of going through bids for the Jo Pass bridge and hope to start construction this month. The Okemos Road Pedestrian Bridge should be started before the end of the year.
