MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The Park Commission has proposed a new millage for the 15 different parks of Meridian Township. The proposal is two-thirds mill, which is double from the current millage. This millage would go towards maintenance, development and improvement of the parks. It would improve basic things like fixing parking lots, making parks handicap accessible, provide restrooms and would make park trails more user friendly.
LuAnn Maisner, Parks and Recreation Director, had this to say about the plan, "Currently there is 7 million dollars worth of projects and if this millage is supported by our voters it would give us approximately 6 million dollars in order to put toward those projects on top of salaries, maintenance and operation of the Harris Nature Center is something the millage does support".
The Township Board has approved the millage to be on the ballot for the next scheduled general election in August of 2014. This millage would last 12 years.
