Young Township Resident Asks to Stop
Littering

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Meridian Township One young member of the community is taking action against practices that harm the environment.

In a petition to Gov. Rick Snyder, 7-year-old Tarun Uppuluri of Okemos wrote,

"I read about a petition in a book and wanted to start one. In science I learned that littering and chopping down trees is bad for our earth. So I petition that in Michigan we should plant more trees and stop people from littering and cutting trees."

At the Meridian Township board meeting on June 18, Uppuluri spoke about his petition.

"If you own a home, drive a car, ride a bicycle, pay taxes, care about good health, you should know that litter is more than an eyesore," he said.

Uppuluri went on to note that litter is the a fire hazard, and the cause of many auto and bicycle accidents every year.

The petition to stop littering also includes a request for citizens to replant one tree for each tree that they harvest.

Uppuluri's petition currently has 203
signatures on the website change.org.
