INGHAM COUNTY - Meridian Township has been notified of the properties in the township that are being foreclosed due to back taxes.
The annual letter from the Ingham County Treasurer's Office has identified four properties that have been taxed foreclosed upon. These properties, that includes two single family homes, one commercial building and a undeveloped piece of land. These properties have been foreclosed due to delinquent taxes from 2010.
Meridian Township Treasurer Julie Brixie explained, "Each year after the pervious years taxes have been turned over to Ingham county for collection, Ingham county supplys us with a list of those tax foreclosed properties, that are going threw the process for that year."
Once this list has been determined the township has the first option to purchase these properties for governmental use if they are interested. Most of the properties that they are interested in are properties that have no structures on them and are in a disirable space for preservation of open space. Many times open space by parks or land preserves is often considered by the township.
"We will occasionally buy them because it provides us better access or additional access to a park" said Brixie.
Meridian Township has decided that they are not going to more forward and purchase any of these properties like this home here. Now these foreclosed properties may go to public auction by the Ingham County Treasurer.
The first public auction will be held on July 24th at the Lansing Center at 9am.
