MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - A bike share could soon be in place in Ingham County. A bike share is a transportation system in which residents have public bicycles available for temporary use. Using the bike share system would be similar to buying a bus pass. Yearly, monthly and daily use passes will be available. The bikes will be equipped with modern technology.

"There's a little solar panel collector over the top of the back wheel that recharges the battery that runs that program, there's a tracking system in there so we'll know where the bikes are, somebody can find out how long they've ridden," said Eric Schertzing, Ingham County Treasurer.

Capital Community Bike Share is the nonprofit organization funding and planning the bike share project. The bikes have been ordered and are expected to arrive in August.
