MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Meridian Township has created a team to take part in the Smart Commute Challenge. Smart Commute was started by Mid-Michigan Environmental Action Council to help reduce an individuals carbon footprint and increase physical activity. This challenge is a way for people to get out of their cars and start walking, biking, using public transit or carpool.
Meridian Township Associate Planner Rick Brown explained how the challenge works for the township members,"At the township we have 17 participants which is up from last year, so that's a nice increase and each person keeps track of their smart commutes. That could a trip to work, trip to the library, trip to the bank, church you name it. One trip for each direction."
The Smart Commute Challenge started June 9th and ends on June 22nd.
