MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The Giant Hogweed plant has come to Michigan. This plant can grow up to fifteen feet is very dangerous for humans to come in contact with.

According to Jane Greenway, Parks and Land Management Coordinatorfor Meridian Township, Giant Hogweed has not been reported in Meridian Township's Parks and reserved lands.

If you don't know what this giant plant looks like Greenway describes it as a "6 to 12 foot tall plant with white flowers." If you see this plant she urges you to contact the Michigan State University Plant Diagnostic services.

Giant Hogweed isn't the only invasive species invading lands. Weeds, not noxious like the Hogweed, such as Garlic Mustard and Buck Thorn are overtaking Meridian Township's natural greenery.

Greenway urges residents to do their part if they come in contact with these weeds by reporting the problem and/or cutting them down.
