MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Haslett High School's baseball team took on Grand Rapids Christian in an MHSAA state-quarterfinal match-up at Davenport University.
The Vikings were defeated by GRC by a final score of 7-1. Haslett scored a run in the first inning, but only managed two hits for the entire game.
"You know, we ran into a good team today, and it showed," Haslett Coach Jeff Woodworth said. "You know, you get two hits in a baseball game, you're probably not gonna win a whole lot of baseball games, but our kids battled."
Coach Woodworth said Grand Rapids Christian's ability to execute small ball was a key difference in the ball game.
"You can do that when you get guys on base, and that is one thing we did not do," Woodworth said. "When you don't have guys on base, you can't do those kind of things to put pressure on the defense."
Of the 15 players on Haslett's roster, 13 of them are underclassmen.
