MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The Township Board has introduced an ordinance that would protect residents from being discriminated against because of their sexual identity. At their last meeting, there was discussion about how to successfully enforced the ordinance. The Board could make the ordinance a criminal offense which could result in a fine and or jail time.
Trustee Angela Wilson introduced the ordinance and explained, "It's about guaranteeing every Meridian Township residents the same opportunity for a good and fulfilling quality of life in our community. And its about making sure Meridian Township is committed to the economic vitality of our community by letting people know and sending the message that it is safe to work and live in Meridian Township and that you are excepted in Meridian Township."
The ordinance is currently under further review, and will be discussed at future meetings.
