UPDATE:
EAST LANSING, MI - Michigan State University held it's annual Spartan Classic High School track meet on Friday, showcasing some of the best track and field talent from around the state.
Schools from all over Michigan came here to compete at MSU's Ralph Young Field.
Among the teams participating, mid-Michigan had a very strong representation including DeWitt, Williamston, Grand Ledge, Haslett, and Okemos High School.
Both the Okemos girls and boys teams had successful outings, but it was the girls' captain Ashlynn Shiro stole the show.
Shiro had three first-place finishes at the meet.
She won the girls' long jump with a seven-foot, three-inch leap and placed first in both the girls' 100 and 300 meter hurdles races.
Shiro was undoubtably the star of the competition, but boys' and girls' head coach, Bryan Harrod was impressed with his entire group of athletes.
"A lot of kids got their personal bests for the season, so far," said Harrod. "Ashlynn Shiro won the long jump, she won the hurdles. Tristan Bolles had a school record in the hundred. We had a freshman, Daria Richards jump almost sixteen feet in the long jump, so we're off to a good start."
Noteable Okemos boy's finishes included Edward Smith taking number two in men's long jump, Dan Brown placed second in shotput, and Okemos also took second in the boys' four by eight-hundred meter relay.
