UPDATE:
LANSING - Proposed House Bill Number 5276 would change the rules for underage tanning.
As the law is currently written people under 18 must have a parent or guardian cosign a stamen acknowledging they understand the risks of tanning.
Justin Carpenter, owner of J2 Tanning in East Lansing, said this bill would be bad for his business.
"Typically under 18 makes up 15 to 20 percent of our business so if it does pass obviously it's going to be a bit of a struggle. But, like any business you have to adapt."
Carpenter said he thinks minors would turn to spray tanning as an alternative.
This bill comes after a steep rise in the number of skin cancer cases of young people in the U.S.
Other states have also proposed similar bills and California his banned minors from using tanning facilities.
