Proposed Pathway May Harm The
Environment

UPDATE: MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The bridge will connect to a path that starts off of Burcham Road between Okemos Road and Park Lake Road and runs through the city, connecting to the river front in downtown Lansing.

However, plans to to construct the bridge have hit a rough patch with the Zoning Board of Appeals.

There's still a fair amount of paperwork that has to be gone through," said Brian Beauchine, Zoning Board of Appeals chair. "We still have to get to the Ingham County Drain Commissioner's office and get their approval since they are the owner of the drain."

The bridge itself will cover a manufactured drain. The wetlands around the drain have become an issue in the proposal because they serve as a home to amphibians and creatures. This environment concern is the reason action on the bridge has been slow.

"I think it'll get done this year, but I don't know how long it'll take before it get's done," Beauchine said.
