UPDATE:
EAST LANSING - According to Sarah Barber, creative marketing specialist from MSUFCU, the credit union tries to support a lot of community events. One in particular being the "Race for the Place" event.
"We have been doing it for many years and we feel it is a great way to give back to the community," said Barber.
The event is a 5K run with proceeds that benefit MSU Safe Place. Safe Place is a program that addresses relationship violence and stalking and provides advocacy, support groups and safety planning.
"Many years ago Safe Place reached out to the credit union, asked for sponsorship and we really believe they have a great mission and believe in their non-profit, we really wanted to help," said Barber.
There's a lot that goes into sponsoring this event.
"At MSUFCU my co-worker and I work on the graphics for the event so we do the posters, the post cards, billboards in the area," said Barber.
Beyond the fun of the run, the event stands for something much more.
"I'd like to think that my time that I'm donating and my work is part of a bigger end goal or a bigger cause and it's exciting," said Barber
