UPDATE: EAST LANSING - The start of some major repairs to the pavement in downtown East Lansing has caused some local businesses to change their normal routines.

"For about the last week, we've had a massive amount of construction start that has been talked about starting for over a year now I think," said the delivery driver for Goomba’s Pizza.

“We heard about it, they came and contacted our businesses letting us know that we needed to find other routes to take because at the time, nobody was going to be able to go up and down here...umm obviously they figured out a way around that."

"They" refers to the Michigan Department of Transportation. Their workers allowed a one-way lane so that traffic can still flow through these segments of Grand River and Michigan Avenues.

The roadwork that you’ll see at the intersection of Michigan and Grand Avenues is just the beginning of the $8 million project. Grand River will see improvements between Coolidge road and Park Lake road and Michigan avenue will see improvements between Grand River avenue and the West City limit.

The construction will be done in pieces and will not be completed until October. In the meantime, those affected have to adapt to meet their customers needs...

“The thing that it's affected more is people's actual thought on how long it will take. They think it's going to take a tremendous amount longer...we get a lot more questions per call of 'well before I even order, how long is your delivery time’ due to the construction."

MDOT and the City of East Lansing arranged that no lane closures will be allowed during community events like fall move-in or home football games.

The Michigan Department of Transportation asks that everyone remains patient until the roadwork is finished in October.
