LANSING - Cracks, pot holes, they're both things drivers complain about and if the new proposal is put into motion, they could become something drivers pay for.

"The Governor is proposing a increase to the funding for roads and transportation in the state of Michigan," said Bill Conklin, Manager of Ingham County Road Department.

That proposal would include an additional 1.2 million to the already 1.9 billion.

Where "Gas tax would be raised from 19 cents a gallon to 33 cents a gallon and the diesel tax would be raised from 15 cents a gallon to also 33 cents a gallon," said Conklin.

And where also " vehicle registration fees would increase," said Conklin.

The decision had yet to've been made, but if things are put into play, we could be paying over 260 dollars fro something like this, to fix cracks in the road as little as this.

And some Drivers aren't too happy about that.

I feel like I already pay a lot in taxes and every year I'm asked to pay more and more. Frankly, I'm getting to the point where, it's going to get to a certain percentage where I don't want to pay anymore in taxes, " said Mason resident.

But then there are others who feel, well, you have to pay for what you want.

"The roads cost money and the roads aren't always the best uh so, if we wanna have nice roads we need to pay for it and probably people who drive cars should pay for the roads," said David Claire.

The proposal is still in discussion and probably won't be put into motion until May 14.
