UPDATE: MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - On Saturday,the Meridian Mall recieved an influx of people swarming in to witness the colorful Chinese New Year Celebration; The Yeaar of The Snake.

The event which took place down the mall's JC Penney corridor included numerous activities and performances such as a dragon parade, a performance by the MSU Chinese Student Orchestra, and an interactive Tai-Chi session, among many others.

"We've seen such events as this done in major cities like Chicago, Detroit, and we thought why not bring it here as well. This is our first time and we're surprised at how successful it turned out. All this wouldn't have been possible without the Meridian Township," President of Greater Lansing Chinese Association, Julie Jiang said.

Recognising the large population of over 6,000 Chinese students, the event is no one-timer but instead is set to become an annual initiative.
