UPDATE:
LANSING - The registry of Sex Offenders is a vital tool for many people nationwide. It is a database of the names, faces, and addresses of all the sex offenders who live in each state. Parents use the registry to be aware of offenders who may live in their neighborhoods, while others use it to satisfy curiosity.
Recently new legislation has been presented for the Michigan Sex Offender Registry. Republican Senator Rick Jones wants Michigan Sex Offenders to pay for the maintenance of the registry rather than Michigan taxpayers. He says it will save the taxpayers about a million dollars per year while only costing about one dollar or two for offenders on the registry.
Senator Jones says that everyone seems to be for the new legislation and once it gets put through the Michigan Senate, it could be effective in as soon as a few months.
