MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Whats a winter without Ice fishing?
Meridian Township Parks and recreation hosted it's annual Ice Fishing Derby for youth at Central Park South.
Families gathered in efforts to catch some fish and win prizes. Prizes were awarded to those who caught the first fish, the largest fish, the second largest fish and the smallest.
The event begin at 9 a.m and ended around noon. The goal of it all was for people to know what winter was like in Michigan.
"I just hope they get a good experience and see what it's all about," said Greg Grothous, Parks and Recreation specialist.
"Hopefully, you know, they get something from it and think that maybe I can try this again," said Grothous.
Get people and expose them to the ice fishing, you know, what winter is like in Michigan and enjoy the time out in nature," said Grothous.
The event was held in conjunction with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources free fishing weekend.
