UPDATE:
MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Williamstown Township will continue to receive police force employment from Meridian Township for the next two years.
After Williamstown Township and Meridian Township agreed unanimously that the deal worked out nicely during it's first two years, Williamstown Township will receive two officers for patrol and security services for one more term.
Meridian Township will receive an annual set payment of 197,220 dollars in return. This is a jump from last terms payment of around 171,000 dollars.
Meridian Township Police Chief David Halls says this is due to, in part, an increase in wages and experience that the officers will have in Williamstown Township.
Halls believes the deal works out well for both sides.
"It's reciprocal as well," Halls said. "There could be a Meridian Township officer assigned to patrol in Williamstown Township, and if Meridian gets busy with something, we can tap that person that we've assigned to Williamstown Township Township."
Hall also said the contract allows the police department to keep two of their officers employed and that he could see the deal sticking around for awhile.
