UPDATE: MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Meridian Township has won the eCities Award for being one of the most entrepreneurial locations in the state of Michigan.
The award distinguishes the township's local businesses that have prospered over the years.
Meridian Township Economic Planning and Development Chair Marsha Madle said the award is the icing on the cake for the businesses but the biggest impact comes from continuing to support the businesses by developing relationships and assisting them.
The award comes to Meridian Township in a time when the nation is facing a possible fiscal cliff. Such a hit on the national economy could take a toll on local businesses.
Madle believes that whether or not the nation is facing a fiscal cliff, it is important to recognize the efforts of the local businesses.
And when asked about her plans to help keep local businesses afloat, Madle explained that she was putting together a business retention plan.
"We're going out and talking to businesses and asking them a series of questions, Madle said. "And, really again, it's about building relationships and building trust with our businesses so that we can really help connect them to resources, not only that are right here in our township, but that are here in the region or through Michigan Economic Development Corporations statewide.
