OKEMOS - The Chiefs kicked off their hockey season against the Wildacts (Northview/Sparta/Comstock Park composite) Friday night.
They were quick to get on the board- about midway through the first Matt Luberto skates right by two defenders and turns it into a breakaway; he crossed over right in front of the Wildcat net minder to make 1-0.
The Cats got on the board in response quickly and suddenly Okemos found themselves in a 3-1 hole heading into the third period.
Forward Cameron Meyer made it interesting in the last few minutes, sticking back a rebound and cutting the lead to one goal, but it wasn't enough. Cats take the non-conference win 3-2.
Head Coach Bill Sipola was out ill, so Assistant Coach Stewart Lowe took the reigns for this game.
