UPDATE:
EAST LANSING - Years ago, people didn't talk about it.
"For a long time no one talked about domestic violence, it wasn't something that was discussed or talked about in the schools, it wasn't talked about anywhere, now its being talked about and people know its wrong," said Amy Ronayne-Krause, Judge at the Michigan Court of Appeals
And it can be found in almost any home.
"We also see it in all different types of situations in terms of socioeconomic status, it does not discriminate," said Ronayne-Krause
Domestic violence is a problem here in Michigan. There were over 100 thousand victims in the state in 2011.
"It really is out of an issue of power and control. Many times domestic violence is a learned behavior. Its something that someone saw as a child, either their mother was beaten or they saw somebody else get beaten in their family," said Ronayne-Krause
But the Domestic Violence Exhibit at the Hall of Justice in Lansing is looking to break that cycle.
"What they can expect in this exhbit is to learn more about domestic violence. One of the best parts of this exhbiit too is that you can look, the students can look and see what kind of partner they want, what kind of qualities they want in a partner," said Ronayne-Krause.
The exhibit also encourages those who are in domestic violence situation to speak up and tell someone.
"It takes a tremdous amount of courage to step out and tell somebody about whats going on for them," said Ronayne-Krause.
