UPDATE:
MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The Meridian Township Board is scheduled to meet on October 2, 2012 at the Municipal Building to make a final decision on consolidating streetlight districts in Meridian.
This change would effect most subdivision homes that are in the 147 streetlight districts, according to Director of
Public Works & Engineering Raymond Severy. When these homes were first built the were assigned a district according to when and where they were built, but as there were more additions to the neighborhoods more districts were created. As a result there are homeowners who pay more for the same street lighting as their neighbor, according to Severy.
Raymond Severy also stated that the Streetlight Consolidation Project was created to condense those 147 districts into just under 20 districts. There will be new assessments made based upon how many homes are on the block and how many streetlights are as well. These assessments will make it more equitable to residents and create a fair system of payment.
