UPDATE:
HASLETT - This season, Haslett Cross Country welcomes fresh faces to the team.
"I think this season we're a younger team that have a lot of potential, as the season goes along I think they'll just improve from meet to meet," said Nick Stanko, boys and girls Cross Country coach.
He knows it's a process to prepare young runners into eventual leaders.
"The younger crew, the door has opened for them and their kind of learning how to fulfill that role, and their doing a really good job of it so its pretty cool to see that transformation happen," said Stanko.
With the team early in the season, Haslett has its eye on the prize; running at the state meet. But preparing for such a task is not easy.
"Its just starting that process with the freshman over again and teaching them everything they need to know and helping the seniors and they become leaders and they can teach the younger kids," said Stanko.
With so much potential this season, the team has to believe.
"Its just building that confidence up because they definitely have the fitness there, they just gotta realize it in between their ears that can actually make it to the state meet," said Stanko.
