UPDATE:
EAST LANSING - Another school year has begun at Michigan State, and enrollment is at an all time high.
This year the Spartans welcome a record number of incoming freshman on campus.
The number is close to 8,000 but final count won't be in until later in the semester.
The office of admission tributes the high number of students to a variety of opportunities on campus.
"In many ways I think it truly does represent the popularity of Michigan state University, the fact that there are a number of things going very very well at Michigan State whether its study abroad or undergraduate research or the success of the athletic teams," said Jim Cotter, Director of Admission at Michigan State University.
Michigan State also had the largest applicant pool this year with more than 30,000 prospective students applying.
