UPDATE: OKEMOS - "It has to do with culture, human beings, understanding generations of people that have come there," said William White, owner of the Tuba Museum.

"Its gonna be a substantial investment that we're doing, we're talking about 40,000 square feet of new construction that's going to take place," said Scott Weaver, President of Douglas J Companies.

It's a fight over preserving a landmark or making way for new development.

Douglas J Salon is looking to expand on the corner of Okemos and Hamilton road, right where toe Travelers Club and Triple Goddess bookstore currently sit.

"We've been looking to expand, our existing building sits on 100 yr flood planes," said Weaver.

White started a petition to try and save the Triple Goddess bookstore and the Travelers Club.

While Weaver created a dueling petition to show how much support people had for the construction for the new Douglas J.

"When Comerica Bank let me know that that property was available, we simply asked if we could put in an offer on it before it went to some auction," said Weaver.

White is hoping that an alternative plan can be worked out so that both parties are satisfied.

"I love Douglas J as much as I love my own business but I can't help him if he's not helping me," said White.
