UPDATE:
EAST LANSING - David Jordon has been the East Lansing 54B District Court Judge for 23 years. Directly out of law school, he had various jobs that led him to becoming District Court Judge. He began serving January 1, 1990.
"In the District Court there are two judges. We see all of the misdemeanor cases through resolution," said Jordon. "We see felony cases through preliminary examination. A preliminary examination finds whether there is probable cause to go to circuit court or not."
He also oversees civil infractions, small claims and is responsible for conducting marriage ceremonies.
Something that Judge Jordon is very proud of is being the Presiding Judge of the Veterans Treatment Court. It is all about helping veterans overcome their adjustment problems and getting them the treatment that they have earned.
"We find that a lot of times veterans have lost the ability to trust and to really have self respect," said Jordon.
This upcoming year, he has decided not to run for re-election and seeks retirement. Jordon thinks of it as a transition, not retirement.
This is because he plans to continue to keep working with the Veterans Treatment for as long as he can, he enjoys making a difference in people's lives.
He is endorsing Andrea Larkin to take his spot as judge.
"I really think that she is someone who understands this community. I think she has wonderful training, experience and great work ethic," said Jordon. "She has the intelligence and the care to treat every case individually. She will give each case the importance that it deserves and that is what it takes to be a judge."
