UPDATE:
MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The ordinance includes both small and large projects including signal timing, boulevards and transit stops. Roadway planning is now being looked at.
From an online survey taken in the winter, respondents reported that they do not feel safe while biking or walking near township roadways.
"It's primary for safety, convenience and quality of life for the residents. A lot of people in Okemos now walk a lot and ride their bikes on the pathway system, but we do have segments that don't have facilities for that. So what we are trying to do now is make sure we consider that," said Director of Public Works Ray Severy.
A grant has been received from the Michigan Department of Community Health and from the Ingham County Health Department for this ordinance to help meet the needs of all roadway users.
