UPDATE: HASLETT - When Brandon Schwind took over the Haslett lacrosse team in 2010, he wasn't expecting the kind of success the position would bring him.

"The first year you know it was just like implement a system, get things rolling and they did very very well with it," said Schwind, coach of Haslett lacrosse team.

The Ohio native was the head coach of the Vikings squad and turned their program around from a 500 record to clinching fourth place in division two.

"It was a big change from what it was before when it was kinda lackadaisical when he came in I felt great. I thought it was fantastic for our program," said Zachary Hubbell, senior at Haslett.

"He knows we're one of the best programs and we have that potential so he expects us to win and when we don't. We work until we beat the next team we play," said Noah Taylor, junior at Haslett.

"It's just the type of kids we have over there. They're fantastic people off the field. And I think that translates well onto the field," said Schwind.

It may be a combination of both elements, because Schwind was named Lansing State Journal's boys lacrosse coach of the year.

"it's not just my award its a staff award for the Haslett lax team, that goes to the kids as well, they made everything possible," said Schwind.

Next season the team sets their goals even higher.

"I'm gonna step up as a leader, as a senior, hopefully lead our team to a state championship, like I always wanted," said Hubbell.
