UPDATE: LANSING - Officers stepped up seat belt enforcement in the Click It or Ticket campaign and the results were better then last year.

In a statewide effort, law enforcement issued 8,050 seat belt and child seat violation tickets which is 1,000 fewer then last year.

This is all part of the effort to save lives by increasing seat belt use. In 2011, over 200 deaths occurred in Michigan traffic crashes where the people were not buckled up.

Officers will continue this effort especially during the summer holidays.
