UPDATE: MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The Meridian Township Fire Department and other Lansing area fire departments have issued a ban on all open burning.

Fire Chief Fred Cowper says because of dangerously hot weather, the open burning ban begins Friday, June 29 at 7 p.m.

"We believe in the best interest of the communities that we serve as Fire Chief that we will ban any kind of burning until further notice. And that's pit fires, camp fires or residential fires," said Cowper.
