UPDATE:
MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Virgil Alford goes to the Senior Center for Jazzercise class.
"Its a more enjoyable environment than standard exercise," said Alford.
He also comes to get out of the heat.
"I have an air conditioner but I never use it because of the energy thing," said Alford
The Senior Center is one of many cooling centers in the Lansing Region people can go to when the temperature gets too high.
"A cooling center is a place where people can come when the heat index rises above 93 degrees Fahrenheit," said Cherie Wisdom, Senior Center Coordinator.
But there's something that sets this place apart from other cooling centers in the area.
"Your definitely not in an environment where you feel like you need to spend money at the senior center. You can come in, you can utilize our library for free. We have a large screen high definition TV where people can watch TV," said Wisdom
They definitely have the air conditioner and the fans going constantly," said Alford.
Although some may think that this cooling center may be for the elderly...
"You know it doesn't matter the age, we don't want anybody suffering in their house, being over heated by the summer heat," said Wisdom.
Virgil knows the wide variety of options this cooling center has to offer, which keeps him coming back.
"You can get out of the heat and you've got all the activities here; you can watch TV, read books, you know if you just wanna sit, you can do anything you want," said Alford.
