UPDATE: HASLETT - Many high school athletes dream of playing their sport in college, but for one Haslett soccer player, his dream is becoming a reality.

Josh Sawyer of Haslett High School officially committed to Northwood University to play soccer on May 23, 2012.

"It's definitely a great feeling signing. A lot of high school athletes don't get to continue their career after high school," Sawyer said.

Haslett men's soccer coach, Alex Hayner is excited as well. He says if anyone is ready to play college sports, it's Josh.

"Going to the next level there are going to be changes, there are going to be things he's going to have to adjust to, but I think if there's someone ready for that challenge, I think Josh is one of those people," Hayner said.

Sawyer was the star mid-fielder and forward for Haslett, earning his first minutes on varsity as just a freshman.

"Getting moved up as a freshman on varsity was a big thing because I think I was the only underclassmen on the team," Sawyer said.

However, making it to star status didn't come over night. Sawyer attributes his success to practice and coaching from older players.

"It took a lot of hard work and playing a lot. I got to play with a lot of good players over the course of my career like my older brother who's playing at Saginaw Valley State, and I was just able to learn and play with them," Sawyer said.

In the mean time, Sawyer is enjoying relaxation and Chipotle burritos before he begins preparing for his first college soccer season.
