MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Meridian Township held its annual Fall Season of Regional Electronics Recycling Day at Chippewa Middle School in Okemos on Saturday, October 1. Capital Area residents could safely recycle their unwanted electronics, ranging from TVs, computers, monitors, printers, and more.
“To do an event like this, it takes 60 - 80 volunteers to make this event possible. There’s interest from the public and that’s the inspiration for keeping this going,“ said LeRoy Harvey, Environmental Programs Coordinator for Meridian Township. “There’s a variety of the costs, one being the facility. The largest cost is the electronics recycling and over $10,000 to get a semi-truck to put the electronics in. The money also covers t-shirts, supplies, rental materials, and signage.”
Harvey thanked the Green Team, local sponsors, and the seasoned volunteers that help with the coordination, and hopes to host more recycling events besides just electronics.
