MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - After two weeks off due to weather conditions, Meridian Township’s Summer Concert Series returned last week with a performance by the Oxymorons.
Despite the heat, community members turned out on June 22nd to hear the band play an eclectic set including hits from the Beatles, Tom Petty, Jason Mraz and John Mayer. The Fab Four are especially important to the Oxymorons, said lead guitarist Mark Geovjian.
“I think there’s probably millions and millions of people, men and women, who are musicians because of the Beatles. That’s certainly the case for us,” he said. “We just got hung up in their popularity and the beauty of their music. You can talk for hours about the Beatles, if you’re into it.”
As they hail from all over Michigan, the band plays without all members on occasion – performing as anything from a duo to their full quartet. Attendees were able to witness the full band for this concert.
“[What I like about performing] is playing with other people … singing together,” said Geovjian. “We like to harmonize together.”
The concert series will continue on Wednesday, June 29th with a performance from Showdown. For more information, visit the website below.
