MERIDAN TOWNSHIP - At the Harris Nature Center, a group of people of all ages got together to learn about snow shoeing.
The class costs $15 if you have your own snow shoes and $20 if you need to rent snow shoes.
There are many benefits to snow shoeing according to Allison Goodman, the Instructor of the Snow Shoe class and Park Naturalist at Harris Nature Center, "Snow shoes traditionally make walking in deep snow easier, and also getting a great work out. You can burn 400 - 1000 calories in an hour of walking."
There is also the option of using poles along with the snow shoes that add a level of stability and "20% more physical activity"
Snow Shoeing is also relatively inexpensive and easier for beginners compared to other winter sports like skiing.
