OKEMOS - Meridian Township Parks & Recreation invited the community to a Family Skate at the new Artificial Ice Skating Rink located at the Marketplace on the Green on Saturday December 4th.
The event was presented with family fun in mind, with music and hot chocolate. The Artificial Ice Skating rink was revealed to the public last month and a number of family friendly events are planned throughout the winter. There were a limited amount of skates available and families were encouraged to bring their own skates. LuAnn Maisner, Director of Parks and Recreation at Meridian Township and coordinator of the ice rink’s construction was excited to open it to the public after two years of discussion.
“We’re excited to open this to our community and have been fortunate to have support from the KiwanIs Club of Haslett - Okemos and they’re going to provide some funding to buy skates. Delta Dental also provided funding to help create our lending bin here at Marketplace on the Green, as well as purchase skates,” Maisner said.
The Ice Rink will be open until 9:00 pm every day all winter until the end of April. The Parks & Recreation Department are still accepting skate donations for use by the general public. Skates may be dropped off at the Parks & Recreation Office at 2100 Gaylord Smith Court in Haslett and will be kept in a lending box for use at the rink.
