LANSING, MICH. - From Aug. 16 to Sept. 6, Michigan officers from 102 law enforcement offices increased patrols during the "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign.

The results have now been posted and it found that officers made over 10,000 traffic stops during that time period, with 200 arrests for impaired driving.

Michigan has a strict drunk driving law which has zero-tolerance for drivers with certain illegal drugs in their system and it is illegal to drive with a blood alcohol concentration of .08 or higher.

Michael L. Prince, the director of the Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning, said that motorists were informed about the campaign and asked to drive safe.

"If you are impaired by any substance you shouldn't drive, which puts yourself and others at risk." Prince said. "There are no excuses."

The campaign also found that 166 of the 200 arrests were from driving while intoxicated and 34 arrests were due to being under the influence of drugs.

The majority of the stops were due to speeding citations, with over 2,000 stops. In one case, one motorists was going 105 mph in a 55-mph zone.

Michigan State Police said around one-third of all fatal crashes involve drunk drivers, and the best way to protect yourself on the road, is by wearing your seatbelt.
