HASLETT, MI - On Tuesday, August 24th the community came together to honor Collin Campbell, better known as "Flag Man" in Haslett, MI.

The event began at 9:30 am at the clock tower at the northeast corner of Marsh and Haslett Road, celebrating with the Kiwanis Club of Haslett-Okemos. Campbell’s son Mike was also present at the event, along with Meridian Township officials to show their support. People in the community were given mini flags to wave in his honor to the people who would pass them.

Campbell is a Marine Corps Vietnam veteran and has been spreading patriotic cheer attracting waves, smiles, and honks from people who pass him while walking on Marsh Road since 1987. After serving as an infantryman in the Vietnam War, Campbell moved to Haslett where he worked for General Motors and after he retired, worked at a Haslett school crossing guard for six years. Campbell also has a Facebook page in his honor created by locals in the community to honor him. While Campbell himself was at the event, he can’t walk like he use to and misses his walks and interactions with motorists, along with Jayda, his dog.

HOMTV spoke with Campbell and had this to say, “I just wanted to bring a smile to somebody's face. That’s all it was in the beginning. Walking down the street and somebody walking by. God bless everyone and glad to see that people came.”

Meridian Township, as well as HOMTV, would like to thank Campbell for his service to the country, and the community.
