INGHAM COUNTY - There were 234 new COVID-19 cases reported in Ingham county between August 3 and August 9, 2021, for a total number of 620 active cases. There have been no new COVID-19 deaths reported during this time period.

There was a slight uptick in hospitalizations in the past week, with 29 hospitalized cases, 4 requiring ICU placement.

The age group with the highest case rate is still 20-29 year olds. Cases among 70-79 year olds are falling due to high vaccination rates in this age group. Cases among 50-59 and 60-69 year olds are rising most significantly.

147,949 Ingham County residents age 16 and up (61.3%) have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, up around 1% since the last calculation.

Although most Michigan State University (MSU) students will be vaccinated, this data will typically not show up on Census data unless the student has permanent residence in Ingham County.

“I think moving forward now that the university has required vaccination for their students, staff, and faculty, we can feel fairly sure that once we get this population on campus, they are largely going to be vaccinated,” said Ingham County Health Officer Linda Vail.

“We still aren't going to see them in our vaccination records.”

The vaccination percentages will be recalculated by the Ingham County Health Department taking this into account.

“When we do this calculation, and show you this number, I think it’s going to be a very fair way to...get a better handle on what our vaccination rates are in Ingham County.”
